Our Story

Hey there! I’m Ryn Kai, founder of I Kan Cohort, and I’ve got a story to share that might just light a fire under you.

I grew up in a tiny town where everyone knew your name—whether you wanted them to or not. People knew who I was, but I didn’t exactly have a ton of friends.

I was too much.

From the get-go, I was told I was "too much." So, like most of us do when we get that kind of feedback, I spent years trying to shrink, to blend in, to be what everyone else expected me to be. Flash forward to my early 30s, and I was a shell of myself—a professional people-pleaser who had completely lost track of what I wanted, let alone who I was. And then one day, everything changed.

A person who had been in my life for as long as I could remember, someone who "should" have known me, turned to me and said, "I think you might be a narcissist."

Our mission

And just like that, it was as if a light bulb went off. I wasn’t a narcissist, not by a long shot. But what hit me like a freight train was this: if someone close to me could think that, then the opinions others had of me weren’t really about me at all. It was like a veil lifted.

That moment gave me the freedom to stop trying to be someone I wasn’t, and start becoming the person I was always meant to be. Now, my mission is clear: I want to help others do the same. I want to give you the tools, the insights, and the support to break free from the expectations and limitations that have been holding you back. Because when you step into your true self, everything else falls into place.

Naming the brand

My grandparents have spent their entire lives in service of others.

My grandpa (Ken) is a volunteer firefighter (still is to this day and he's in his 80's). He's saved countless lives, has won multiple awards and I even remember him winning a car for his contribution to society.

My grandma (Nancy) is a rockstar!! She's the glue that has always held the entire family together.

I've always looked up to her so much. She's always donated her time and money to help with various causes that she believes in. She writes letters to the elderly who don't have family, and makes beautiful jean quilts that she refuses to sell and will only donate.

My grandparents have spent their entire lives in service of others and this brand will help them service people world-wide.

"Kan" in I Kan Cohort stands for Ken and Nancy, and I'm so excited that you're here, reading about them right now!

I hope you love I Kan Cohort and that it's everything you've been searching for.

XOXO,

Ryn Kai
